daily recovery: tree climbing

Heather is smiling calmly, viewed from below. She sits in a cedar tree with numerous branches behind her.

Someone challenged me recently by simply asking, “What does your daily recovery practice look like?”

😳

He said spirituality doesn’t need to wait until the 11th step in recovery. He challenged me to choose one thing. So I put on my new kicks and went on a walk for a coffee. On the way home I spent some time with my new friend, Cedar. I kicked off my shoes and climbed barefoot up to a seat (modestly off the ground - I’m over 40. I mean, know your limits 😂). The breeze became my prayer and the branches my hammock. I think this is a practice I can stick with.

“My tree” growing up was a huge weeping willow. Sometimes we have to go back to our first loves, the original safe places and rhythms we had before things got complicated and systematic.

What could your simple rhythm look like today?
